There were a lot of threads, but I simply dont understand the whole thing...so Im posting here a post...sorry for that.. its winter time and Im planing to put my k5 1000 engine down and do some small modification because of the budget limit and spending some extra money for the traction control...
1.Head gasket
I know its better the yoshimura original one 0.55, but I know and have ride the k4 1000 engine with only two layers of its original head gasket for two years only on track..any problems at all...the comression ratio was 13.2..my question is if I decide to take the risk do I skimm off the head surface or no?! If so, how much...0.15?! Thanks on that...
2.I have a spare k5 camshafts with yoshimura variable cam sprockets...over timing I have red some got settings..have also done some calculation if I swap the exaust camshaft with intake from a k4 1000...Original the k5 1000 runs 105\99.50...overlap is 80...if I put the k4 1000 intake on exaust I have plus 10 on duration and the timing jumps to 105\107.50...even better if I put a k4 750 intake, then the timing is 105\110,5..its a good setting for mid and high rpm as I red, im using my bike only on track...if so please confirm that my thinking is ok and I can do that modification...
3.Polishing the intakes or making structure
Has anybody some pictures of how to polish or make a structure for intakes for good intake flow or there was a thread to seal the wall of intake with epoxy..I have found the picture but dont understand where exactly to put it...
As Tim Radley sad, that the k5 engine doesnt require much tuning to gane some power, I have tried to contact him with those question but no luck...thats why Im writting here now...thats it...no other modification will I do, because all other money is going for traction control...My thinking is that I will have better results with traction control and some small engine modification and the engine will last longer..
thank you for all your answers and tips....
