I have tried a lot of tire combinations on the Ring, and for me the RS1/RS2 worked very well. It is temperature sensitive though. Too cold outside, and the RS2 provide low grip. Too hot outside, and it is totally worn out after 30 laps and starts sliding after 20. During some of the hot days last summer I went up to a RS3 rear, which worked much better. Still used the RS1 front though, although I could have gone to RS2 front on the warmest days.
As for the tire pressure, I went up at the rear having discussed it with Helmut Dähne and my tire contact at Metzeler. Normally, the Rennsport should have 2.1 front and 1.9 rear. However, with this pressure the bike became a bit unstable. At the bottom of Fuchsröhre at full throttle in 6th, the bike would wallow, making it very difficult to get into the correct line for the following lefthand corner.
I also had problems in Kesselchen. There is a small right kink 100-200 meter before Angstkurve (Mutkurve?). Midcorner there is a bump. Having gone with full throttle all the way up Kesselchen I find it important to make a very small wheelie over this bump to retain stability. Here too the bike would wallow with too little pressure at the rear. This would draw the bike towards the left, while I wanted to go right for a good line through Angstkurve.
Finally, over the "sprunghugel" in Pflanzgarten II stability is utmost important. When wheelieing over the "sprunghugel" and the bump at the top of the hill shortly after, I found that with too low pressure it was difficult to force the bike in the direction wanted.
Dähne recommended 2.4 at the rear for the Rennsport RS2/3, but if memory serve me right I ended up with 2.2-2.3. This pressure for the Nordschleife only, on "normal" tracks, pressure should be 1.9.
Of course, stability is highly related to speed/laptime but for me at least, the higher pressure helped a lot at the pace I was riding last year.
With all this said, I must admit I haven't tried the street version of the Rennsport. Why do you reckon it is a better choice than RS2/3?
As for damper and rearshock, I have an Öhlins steering damper. I will test a Wilbers rear shock on the Ring next week, and on Val de Vienne in France the week after. Have always used Öhlins so I am curious to see how Wilbers compare.
